Post subject: 3 Irish press photos

A couple of months back I showed 2 Irish press photos on here and got some help from you guys, for which many thanks. The time has now come to stick them onto my website but before I do, I'm showing them again in case someone new to this site, or who was away last time, sees them and recognises something not so far spotted. And I have a third photo with absolutely nothing known about it - a proper mystery.

Here they are:-

This one is Shelbourne keeper Kevin Blount or Jim Farmer, playing at Milltown, home of Shamrock Rovers. Can anyone provide any further info please?

This one is Shelbourne again playing at Milltown (maybe in the same game as above), against a team probably in blue (man on right) which rules out Shamrock Rovers, but who could be Limerick or Cork Athletic.
Can anyone provide any further info please?

Finally, I got hold of this one more recently and it's completely plain on the back. Can anyone identify the 2 teams playing please, and also the ground with that lovely bit of terracing - and those windswept fans? This is a great photo.

Thank you for any help you can offer. Should anyone be interested in acquiring them, please PM me.

I just checked these 2 players' careers out on Wiki. What stalwarts they were!

Brendan Bradley (what a record!) played for Finn Harps as follows:-

1969-72 (79 games, 58 goals)
1973-78 (115 games, 82 goals)
1982-85 (74 games, 41 goals)

Barry Murphy played for St Pats as follows:-

1977-81

So this photo must be 1977-78 as that's the only overlap?

Thanks again

Definitely looks like Brendan Bradley. Great photo and a real legend of the game here. I think it's probably a Sligo Rovers kit though. He played for Sligo 79-82

Thanks again guys.

So it was Sligo Rovers in the stripes - glad to have got that sorted.

I see Bradley scored 44 goals in 90 games for them.

Don't suppose you have any unwanted press photos now? Very Happy

I can't help too much but just to clarify Shelbourne played home games in Milltown also in the early 1950's. So they need not be from a Shelbourne v Shamrock Rovers game.

The goalkeeper in the first one could be Walter Durkan of Dundalk my Dad reckons.

http://www.dundalkfc.com/on-this-day-17th-february-1952/

He doubts it is Blount or Farmer but not certain.

Maybe seand can help here.

The 2nd photo is definitely not Limerick but no idea who the players are.

I'd guess 79/80 for the St. Pats v Sligo Rovers photo based on the jerseys.

Thanks guys, just to say that Seand is helping and I've blown up he images of the 1950's photos so he can get a better view. As here

I've sold the Brendan Bradley photo now but thanks again to all for their input.

Seand reckons the keeper in the first photo is probably Christy Barron, then of Shelbourne, playing at Milltown.

That would date it to late 50's although I'm not sure when Barron joined Shelbourne and then left them to join Dundalk but he was at Dundalk in 1960/1.

Thanks again all.

Shelbourne left Milltown in 1951. So this is putting it much later. It does look like Milltown.

Why was Walter Durkan ruled out?

I didn't think of looking into Durkan (despite the mention I now see above), the picture in Gary's link looks possible though. I should be able to get years for Durkan/Barron/Blount at Shelbourne.

Durkan was in goal back in the early 50's - played in 1952 Cup Final.

My Dad reckoned it was him even when told it was either Blount (definitely not) or Farmer. Not just from his face but also his distinctive kit which he always wore. Yellow top and black stripe on his shorts.

OK, guys, I'll wait further news before making any lasting comments on my website when I update on Friday.

I'm enjoying finding out a bit about Irish football though, this is all new to me. Thanks for that.

The Goalkeeper is Jim Farmer we played together for years after he played for Shels 1955-1958 Kevin Blunt played for Shels 1953-55 and the photo has to be 1956 season because the crest was larger than the following seasons

Joe, that's superb, thank you so much.

No ideas on the other photo I suppose - you don't recognise anyone?
