A week ago i collected just Cardiff City home programmes back to 1960. I had 1113 home programmes and had just amassed 254 aways over time too.

Then last Thursday someone posted on Cardiffs message board that they were selling off their collection. I PM'd him, called him first thing Friday morning and then Sunday lunch time i was at his house and bought his whole collection from him which contained most home and aways back to 1968 aswell as some real gems like our first ever away European programme in mint condition which sells for around £200+.

Ive spent since then merging the collections and now i have 1247 homes (+124) and a whopping 990 aways (+636!! Shocked )

I now just need 150 home programmes (mostly from 60s) and 402 away games!

I still have to sort through all the autographs (including a full set from 1936 and a full set from 1947), playing cards, fixture lists and tickets i bought too so i guess ill start collecting them aswell!!! Good thing theres also about 1000 programmes i already had which i will now have to sell off to be able to afford these new collections!! Clap

Too much!!! Crying or Very sad

Lets just say the seller and me both got a decent deal out of it.

I had a signed Wales v England programme at auction on Monday with Football Sports Auctions and it had an estimate of £100-£120 but they didnt sell it as it only reached £75 but id been banking on that selling to pay for some of this collection. Looks like im going to be short of cash for a bit now! Sad

Result Craig, but I always struggle to understand why someone would sell off such a collection. Could you ever do it? Don't think I could!

I dont plan on selling my collection and if i did i wouldnt sell it in one lot as you are never going to get anywhere near the return you would if you sold it off in smaller lots.

The fella was downsizing from his large 5 bedroom house to something smaller as all the kids had moved out though and he would have struggled to take his collection with him. His collection took up the whole box room and he had to drop all the stuff over to me in his escort van as it wouldnt have fitted in the car!!

Did something similiar when I started collecting Grantham programmes seriously, firstly went to a programme fair and brought a few hundred for £40, but the biggest haul came when I was speaking to the club chairman who said we had a room full of programmes in the main stand, I didn't beleive him and thought it would be a couple of boxes, turns out it was the clubs entire excess stock for the last 25 years !!

All I had to do was move them, which I gratefully did and whilst sorting I managed to find not only 100's of my now 2500 odd collection, a major haul in the day of my collection, but something that will obviosuly never be repeated.
