I hope that I have spelt his name correctly. My apologies in advance if not.

Saw a short item on the news this morning that DM passed away aged 80.

Always remember the pic of him in a Millwall away shirt when Derby turned up at The Den without a change of kit (colour clash) so they had to borrow our red shirts to play in.

RIP

Another legend gone.

A truly inspirational leader and as tough as they come.

Was lucky enough to meet him at Fellows Park when he managed Walsall, a nice friendly chap - Not how his playing image perhaps portrays him. Can only just remember him playing but the praise of the likes of Pat Jennings today speaks volumes.

RIP

Guess the Indy will have its obit tomorrow, but meantime a couple of Derby Co pics from my stock. Wonderful player, hard as nails, fair as they come, and a gent. The photo of him & Bremner (which he hated) showed all you needed to know what he thought of Billy even though they were Scottish team-mates.

I know we should not speak ill of the dead but he was the perpetrator of the most horrendous tackle i have had the misfortune to witness in my fifty plus years of watching the game.

Everton v Derby Goodison Park late 60s Evertons young forward Jimmy Husband broke through the middle of the Derby defence from the half way line with a clear run on goal MacKay cut im off at the waist with a dreadfull challange, Husband was out of the game for a while and never was the same player after this insident.

There was a feature in the following Mondays Daily Express about MacKay when i saw it i absolutly saw red and i wrote a long letter in reply totaly lambasting him for his actions that afternoon.

For some strange reason the D/E saw fit not to print my letter.

I always admired DM has a player but his estamet has a sportsman went down in my eyes after that game.

A sad day for football, one of the best players if not the best to leave Scotland for England, and a Jambo forever, our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.

I sincerely hope so.
Whoever took over from Cloughie in '73 would have found it difficult but he not only managed that, he also won us another League title.

It's of no consequence, but I didn't like the way he was portrayed in "The Damned United" movie.....made out that he took the manager's job by usurping Clough and that just wasn't the case at all.

Indy obit today, a superb effort - newspaper uses the infamous Bremner image, while online shows lifting the Cup in 1967 (plus they mis-spelled the name of the journalist who wrote it).

RIP Big Man.

I met him at Villa Park at the !974 FA Cup replay with Leicester. The wags I was with were encouraging him to sell us Bruce Rioch. He took it all in good heart. Thumbs Up

RIP

Did the Spurs programme have a tribute to Mackay in the Leicester issue?

I have the Hearts and Derby County issues which featured him on the cover, just want to see if there were any others.

A cracking summary of the man from the Indy obit:

"Only 5ft 8in, he exerted a fearsome muscular presence with his oaken thighs and barrel chest, tearing into tackles like a runaway snow plough."

I think I got this close-up from the ever-helpful Pete's Picture Palace..

His teeth look like they've taken a wee bit of a bashing down the years!

Fitting tribute to Dave that Hearts secured the League on Sunday.
A Hearts man through and through.
