Looks like we found the unfortunate bidder..

Mind you he has 3 others..

If you zoom in on the image of that West Brom programme, there are some interesting stories contained within the "General Notes" page.

Such as the whistle blower at Caernarvon...and a "Lady" playing for Crystal Palace!

What's that all about, Pete?

Yes, as Dorking explained, George "Lady" Woodger, sold to Oldham for about £800 in 1910 and capped once by England (v Ireland) in 1911.

Here's the Oldham front line (Woodger 2nd right):-

Yeah, ok.

Interestingly, at the bottom of the team line ups seems to be the story of how Sunderland got their nickname!

If you want to i will swap you one for the 1920's United home that you've cough cough got that you won't sell to me(and give you £500)
Very Happy Very Happy

You are being sarcastic to the wrong person, it was not Pablo who you engaged in conversations about that it was Martino, so suggest you send your apologies to one and continue to rub the other one up by redistributing your comments and we can all sit back and watch yet another Treble slanging match Laughing

Its ok Leslie, the whole thing is obvious misdirection from treble anyway!

Above all, a cracking find and a lovely item that any Utd fan would love to own, my own worthless opinion is that this will fetch in the ballpark of 3-4k Smile but what do I know?

Everyone's view/opinion is valid so just because you do not have the worlds biggest MUFC collection[like me and everyone else] then there is no need to feel inferior Laughing
I would be surprised if it hit those figures-had the bidders trying to outdo each other within hours of it being listed kept their powder dry then it would not have escalated to this level at such an early stage, the lack of acumen by a great number of bidders is quite apparent, if i personally am interested in something then i am in with 3-4 seconds to go-if i offered more i get it and if i did not ce la vie another one will usually turn up. However with this item that seems most unlikely but it is not a final or a semi and the liklehood of getting the 3rd-4th-5th rounds would be a miracle, so as nice an item as it is i know where i need to be and if it is surpassed then that is me out of it and let the "big boys" battle to make the seller a very happy chappy.

What is coming out of this listing is all aspects of the hobby
I find it very interesting

Clearly a very rare item
Clearly on everybody's wants list(mine included)
The price it will sell for will be determined by who wants it and what they are prepared to pay compared directly with the underbidder

It has no relationship to the opinion of what somebody thinks it is worth no matter how experienced that person is in the world of collecting

There are serious Burnley collectors as well as Manchester United collectors
I suspect, and it is only a guess, is that the winner won't be one of the "usual suspects"
I have no idea what it will sell for
It might not make much more than it is at now
Equally it might make one of the significant figures already mentioned.
What price rarity??

I do know for sure that no matter what price it makes everybody will be happy
The seller is already sitting pretty with possibly more to come
The eventual winner will be happy that he has won it
Everybody that bid and lost will be happy that somebody else,in their opinion, has paid far too much
Every who has a similar item(well as similar and rare as can be compared) will revalue their collection up

Everybody on this forum will be happy as something interesting has happened to debate

So to give you some clues so as to play the happy family game what's it worth
1 the semi final from this year between Manchester United v Newcastle United sold for £2000 plus commission in April 2000.In hindsight that now seems a gift
2 The final from this year between Manchester United v Bristol City sold in 2012 for £20,000 plus comission

So what's your guess on the Burnley v Manchester United

Then you've just got to find
Round 1 United v Brighton
Round 2 United v Everton
Round 3 United v Blackburn

Shocked Shocked

The item on ebay is dated the 6th March-this match was abndoned after 72 minutes due to "inclement weather" with the attendance at 15,471 in the ground with Burnley leading 1-0.

4 days later on the 10th March the match was replayed and 25,000 turned up[better weather-bigger crowd] but this time United went through 4-2.

So does this now make the abandoned match programme worth more? and anyone who does not know these facts may consider once obtained its another one off the list-think again as now you have to find the other programme!

as it was abandoned i would personally say it was only of interest to the serious collector as it might be considered not a match at all
That might reduce the runners and riders who might wish to bid on the programme

match was abndoned after 72 minutes ? I suspect foul play. Was Ferguson the manager then ? I think this programme would have been re issued with a teamsheet insert. Who has the insert Laughing

So the Burnley v West Brom 1907/8 programme only went for £540.

I wish I could find a Blackpool home from that season for that kind of price. Sherlock

1907/8.. I wouldnt say Blackpool fans lash the cash either.

I sold a Bolton v Blackpool 1946/7 for £25
and a Bolton v Chelsea 1946/7 for £1250.

The bigger clubs have a bigger fanbase and therefore attract high earners.
So investing in Football memorabilia good way to hide money

I have probably spent more in the first 3 weeks of 2015 than I did in the whole of last year on some very choice Blackpool programmes.

If quality programmes become available, there are some Blackpool collectors who will stop at nothing as I know to my cost. Laughing

If you can come up with a Blackpool home from 1907/8 (or 1908/9 for that matter) please let me know.
