On a footballing note, I'll always think of this tour as being the Sammy Hughes tour. One of the greatest Northern Irish footballers never to win a full international cap.

Sammy Hughes broke his league in the last game v Young Boys Berne.
Well before my time but a Glentoran legend.

Programmes exist for all games although the 2 British Columbia games saw a double issue.

Liverpool in New York L 0-4
Hamilton All Stars Hamilton W 4-1
Ontario FA XI Toronto W 2-0
Winnipeg Select Winnipeg W 2-0
Saskatchewan FA Moose Jaw W 10-0
British Columbia Mainland Vancouver W 3-1
Victoria All Stars Victoria W 5-1
British Columbia Mainland Vancouver L 2-3
Alberta FA XI Edmonton W 9-1
Liverpool Toronto L 1-3
Young Boys Berne Montreal L 1-4

They have all appeared in say the last ten years although most would be £100+ many £200+. Liverpool in Toronto and BC Mainlanders are probably the 2 that appear most often. They are probably £50 each although maybe a Liverpool collector can give a better idea.

Liverpool in New York and Alberta FA in Edmonton were the last 2 I got. I know of only one other full set and his came much closer to the time from somebody on the tour.

programmes not that reliable as some just show squads.

No lineups that I know of. Best info is here.

He scored against British Columbia, Victoria and Alberta anyway.

I also believe Young Boys Berne produced a tour programme/brochure of their own featuring the details of their games in the USA in 1953.

Eddie Crossan played in all the games apart from the 3rd match (v Ontario). He started 9 of the other 10 and came on as a sub in the 2nd match (v Hamilton). The tour and line ups with match reports are covered in the 1953-54 Irish Football Year Book. A few mentions of Eddie include game 1 - "Eddie Crossan worked himself to a standstill" game 4 - " The outstanding player on view was little Eddie Crossan"
last game - " There were very few reputations enhanced in the Irish team, although McMichael,Casey and Crossan worked hard all through" I will try and scan the info if I can.

Great info on that link and some nice pictures.

One error on there though.

Jimmy D'Arcy was playing for Brentford FC at the time, not Chelsea. As Jimmy came to Brentford in October 1952, in a swap deal with Ron Greenwood going the other way to Chelsea. So we need to get that little bit straight. Wink
