So much unique architecture lost forever.

There's something very dignified about Filbert Street as was....I wish I'd managed to omit the graffiti, though!

Love the photos mate, remember standing on that open terrace at Blackpool last game of 1986 when a drab 0-0 draw kept us up in Div 3.

Agree wholeheartedly with the architecture sentiment too.
I went to Darlo's Feethams on a warm summer's evening, where you had to enter through the cricket ground and walk around to the footy ground part.
I thought it was one of the prettiest, most interesting venues I'd ever seen, couldn't believe my ears when they flattened it for that monstrosity of a concrete bowl that they had no hope whatsoever of sustaining.
If ever somebody needed their bumps felt!

I particularly loved Fulham's Craven Cottage in the 80s too.
Pre its partial redevelopment, I thought it was the most charming ground and setting of all. That beautiful main grandstand with its stunning façade and the iconic cottage in the corner.
Then whilst standing on the open away terrace, you also had that lovely tranquil view of the Thames to your left, which afforded such a contrast.

I've only seen it on the telly since, but those ugly new stands couldn't have eradicated the ground's beauty more.

Craven Cottage 1949, lovely silhouettes of those guys on the far walls. (Black & Bacuzzi in action)

Snowy Feethams with horrible fencing up, 80's?

Took a photo of just that very view back in 1981. I'll post it up for you once I get back home late this evening.
Did you know the back row of the main stand at Feethams had old cinema seats installed?
The height of luxury, it was, sitting there!

I had heard that but never saw them when I went sadly.

I have several photos of various grounds back then too, but can't post them at the mo as I'm on a ruddy dongle, thanks to my moving home and trusty old BT taking almost seven weeks (yes seven!) to reconnect my broadband.

I'm thoroughly enjoying everybody else's nostalgic pics though.

Loved Leeds Road, if ever the term a "proper old football ground" was relevant, it was for that place.
It's layout always reminded me of Ninian Park too.
A main grandstand on one side, a huge covered standing terrace opposite.
An open terrace one end, an a smaller covered stand the other.
They were very similar, even down to the lanky floodlights.

Bazza's nice pic of Wolves' South Bank doesn't do its vastness justice, it was a real trek to the top of it!

Not a great quality photo but this shows a full Kop at Bloomfield Road when it had the roof on.

Terrific.
Any idea, even roughly, what year that photo is from?

I don't have the precise date but I reckon it could be from the 1970/1 Division 1 season.

Love the Feethams photos Pete.

In the top one, that section of terrace nearest the camera with the huge fence was where they stuck us away fans.

Thankfully, there were so few County fans there when I went, they let us go up onto that open terrace at the other end when we attacked that second-half.

When I can find time I'll put my own pics up from the 70's onwards - York, Plymouth,Torquay, Bristol Rovers and City, Springfield Park, Ayresome Park, Oldham, Blackpool etc etc. All unrecognisable from the character-less stadiums we're forced to endure today. Sad Sad

Here's one of the Kop roof at Bloomfield Road being constructed in 1961.

Note the old Central Station railway lines and steam engines on the left.

And the man walking across the roof with a ladder.

2 excellent pictures of Bloomfield Rd. I've seen a larger photo of the full kop and I think Tom White can be seen which could make it 1 or 2 seasons earlier than 70/71.
On the picture of the roof being constructed the small stand at an angle
in the corner of the ground was a grandstand at Fleetwoods North Euston ground and sold to Blackpool in 1915. It remained in the north west corner until the early 1980's.

You're probably right there codbadges.

It's likely to be one of the three seasons following relegation from the top flight in 66/7 or 70/1 based on the full Kop.

I'll try and find a larger picture sometime.

Drill Field, Northwich Victoria, 1980 FA Cup tie v Wigan. A ground in constant use between 1875 and 2002. Now a housing estate but I think that stand is now being used by FC United of Manchester. Right?

Feethams, 1980.

Delightfully quirky ground.

Anyone recognise the make of the car on the right?

Underhill, Barnet, 1980's. Good old slope clearly evident.

Never went to Underhill sadly, but I went to Yeovil's old Huish for a pre season game in the 80s and was looking forward to seeing their famous "slope."

Slope be buggered, it was more like the side of a mountain!
Never seen anything like it before or since.

Not just any old car but, in 1980, the Lincoln manager's.

Who was...?

2 or 3 years too late, Pete.

This guy was an ex-Derby manager!

There was a time in the 60s when numerous clubs sporadically included an aerial shot of their stadium on the front cover of their programme, wasn't there?

Off the top of my head - Exeter, Norwich, South Liverpool, Man City, Romford, Derby, Wrexham.

Any others?
